Those who will join the wonderful agricultural tours that are offered at Kibbutz Sha’ar HaGolan, situated within the landscape of the fertile Jordan Valley, will feel the same way – and will also get a chance to merge with this enchanted landscape, that looks like an old postcard.
This is a guided agricultural tour that starts with meeting your guide, watching a fascinating (and amusing) film presenting the kibbutz’s various agricultural fields and a few surprising facts. After watching the film you will go on a visit to the banana and avocado plantations and the dairy barn. In addition to enjoying the tranquil views you will also learn a thing or two. For example, did you know that the banana plant is botanically defined as grass? And that the Mexican dish of guacamole, made out of avocado, has a Native American origin? An additional recommended tour deals with getting to know life in the kibbutz. During the tour you will hear about the life in an authentic socialistic kibbutz. Would you believe that in this kibbutz still lives one of the original kibbutz’s founders who is 103 years old?
You can combine in your tour a meal at the kibbutz’s dining room and experience from up close this place’s way of life, or add a guided tour at the Museum of Yarmukian Culture. You can also finish with a real treat – a dip in the kibbutz’s swimming pool (during the winter the pool is covered and heated). In short, the agricultural tour and the kibbutz tour provide a wonderful country-style experience as well as an educational one. The tours are suitable for groups of at least 15 people. Kibbutz Sha’ar HaGolan also offers additional attractions, including the pleasant "El Mul Golan” (in front of the Golan) holiday complex, which overlooks the Golan Mountains, as befitting its name. This country-style holiday is wonderful for families with children as well as for couples and it is excellently situated near numerous beautiful trails.
Sha’ar HaGolan is a well-established kibbutz financially, that has not yet gone through privatization, and there are not many like it still in the kibbutz movement.
