North West of Herzliya Pituah is the Apollonia National Park, a Crusader city, parts of which have been excavated in recent years. Here one can find Apollonia’s Roman villa, situated near the sea, wine presses, water cisterns, various installations and the remains of the ancient city’s Crusader fortress. This is an impressive cliff-top Crusader fortress overlooking the Mediterranean from a height of 30 meters. The lookout balcony at the top of the fortress provides a spectacular view of the coastline. Due to the retreat of water at the coastline, the remains of sea-faring vessels and cargo were found here, including basalt millstones, an iron canon and many other ancient finds.
