At the Berko Archaeological Park in Tiberias are the ancient remnants of the city of Tiberias, from the time of the city’s establishment by Herod Antipas in the 1st century CE and until the time of the Fatimid dynasty in the 11th century CE. This impressive park presents the glorious past of the city of Tiberias and offers the public a green corner which includes a set of paths, unique gardens and archeological finds, such as the ancient Roman gate and a thousand years old drainage system. This place also serves for music and theater public events. Recently, excavations have begun on the 7,000 seats ancient Roman Theater which is located on the slopes of Mount Berniki and has a view over the whole Judeo-Roman city complex, the Sea of Galilee and Mount Hermon. Later on further work will be done on the Seat of the Sanhedrin, bath house, Beit Midrash (Jewish study hall), Mount Berniki, the ancient port and more.
