3,000 years ago the Philistines came to the area where today’s city of Ashdod is located, and ruled this region fiercely for many generations. This small, modest museum– established in 1990- reveals to its visitors some of the ways of life of these people and tells their story with clarity with the help of texts and exhibits. The Museum’s permanent exhibit, called "The World of the Philistines”, includes garments, ritualistic tools, musical instruments, sarcophagi, various pottery and other remnants of the everyday lives and religious rites of the Philistines. The museum also hosts changing art exhibits. An individual guide can be prearranged for organized groups.
