Beit Guvrin National Park includes a few important sites; among them are the Roman Amphitheater and the mound named Tel Maresha, which Rehoboam, the son of King Solomon, fortified. From the top of the mound one can see a spectacular view of the area. In this place hundreds of caves were dug which turned it into a mysterious and impressive underground labyrinth. The caves initially served as quarries for the mining of the stones from which the Greek residents of Maresha built their homes, and later on they served as warehouses, cisterns and other useful spaces underneath their houses. In one cave hundreds of niches were found, in which pigeons were housed. In another cave one can see an ancient olive press. In the burial caves there are Greek style murals. In the impressive Beit Guvrin bell-shaped caves- in which the quarrying marks are still visible- due to their excellent acoustics, concerts and special events are sometimes held.
