There is no doubt that the Cinematheque is one of the most important and interesting cultural institutions in Tel Aviv. The Cinematheque, which was built at the end of the 1980s, includes several halls in which are shown Israeli and International films, either new or from the Cinematheque’s collection. In addition, the Cinematheque also occasionally holds first screenings of films that are not considered commercial and theme festivals from all around the world. Among the regular festivals that the Cinematheque offers, are the "Docaviv”- a documentary filmmaking festival, the "Gay and Lesbian Film Festival" and more. Every once in a while, artworks, and especially local photography exhibitions, are hosted at the Cinematheque’s pleasant entrance hall. The square at the front of the Cinematheque is a nice meeting place and next to it stretches HaArba’a Street which includes some of the best restaurants in the area.
