The Botanical Garden at Ein Gedi

When people think of an Oasis, they must be seeing in their mind’s eye a place like the Botanical Garden at Ein Gedi, between the desert landscape of the brown cliffs, on the one side, and the surface of the Dead Sea, on the other. Here are planted about a thousand species of plants, including a great variety of cacti, herbs, exotic flowers and a great baobab tree, which invites one to sit next to its protruding roots. And all of this is located in the midst of the kibbutz and its houses. In between, there are vivid green lawns which contrast the distant landscape. In the garden itself are paths in which it is a great pleasure to try and get lost and find unfamiliar corners. One can walk around individually or join a guided tour, in which fascinating information is revealed about some of the species which grow here.
