The Yehiam Fortress is another impressive remnant from the Crusaders time. This is an ancient Crusaders’ fortress which was built in the 12th century on top of earlier settlements from the Roman period. The settlers, which came to this place in 1946, lived within the fortress’ ruins. Its massive walls protected them when they were under siege during the 1948 War of Independence. These defense positions have been restored and are now open for visits. While touring the fortress, one can get an impression of the battles which took place here during the War of Independence and view the Western Galilee in all of its beauty from one of the highest and most impressive observation points in the area, which is located at the top of this fortress.
