Mount Karkom Overnight Campground is located on the western slopes of this famous mountain, thought by some researchers to be no less than Mount Sinai. But it is not simple to stay the night at the foot of this Biblical mountain, as this is a military firing range (a visit must be prearranged with IDF’s Southern Command). However, what you get in return to this minor bureaucratic difficulty is pure desert and pristine views. It is recommended to climb to the top of the mountain first thing in the morning – this is an unforgettable experience, especially at sunrise. Mount Karkom Overnight Campground offers no water taps, toilets, showers or electricity. It is only accessible to off-road vehicles, bicycle or on foot. Mount Karkom Overnight Campground is open throughout the year. Free of charge.
Arrival at Mount Karkom Overnight Campground: accessible from Nekarot Stream (through road number 40) as well as through road number 10 (the road that runs parallel to the Egyptian border). Those arriving by an off-road vehicle need to have the relevant trail map (number 18).
