Kerem HaTeimanim (The Yemenites Vineyard)

On the not very clear border between the south and the center of Tel Aviv, near the vibrant Carmel Market, is the neighborhood of Kerem HaTeimanim (The Yemenites Vineyard). It got its name due to the fact that in its first days settled in it Jews who emigrated from Yemen. Many of the neighborhood’s houses were build low, with inner yards and on fairly narrow streets- which gives a walk in this neighborhood a welcomed feeling of getting away from modern urban life with its high rising buildings. In the Kerem HaTeimanim neighborhood one can still find small authentic restaurants that are run by families, and which specialize in Yemenite food. In some of these restaurants cooking is still done over kerosene burners and the atmosphere in them is pleasant and informal. Alongside these restaurants one can also find here some excellent Humus places that are free from any PR or extravagance. Here the taste and the atmosphere are most important. It is interesting to know that throughout its existence this neighborhood "gave birth” to famous music artist such as the groups "Tslilei HaKerem” (Sounds of the Kerem, or Vineyard), "HaParvarim” (The Suburbs), and singers such as the "Great Suleiman”, Hofni Cohen, Ahuva Ozeri, Boaz Shar’abi and others.
