The Hasmonean Village, near moshav Shilat, portrays the way of life of the people in the Land of Israel in ancient times. The Hasmonean Village was founded about thirty years ago by Zohar Baram, a Geographer and a man of Israel Studies and it contains an oasis with ancient tents and a characteristic oasis vegetation, a signposted Roman road, a vineyard and an olive grove and a hiding cave which depict the rural landscape of Judea as it was in the Roman-Byzantine period, a Neolithic village, a Hasmonean village with structures such as residential buildings, active olive presses, an ancient wine press, a Beit Midrash (a school for Torah studies) and many more structures which display the occupations and way of life of that period in history and more. The Hasmonean Village offers creative workshops such as a pottery workshop and one for collecting medicinal herbs, and the activities which represent those of ancient times are offered based on the agricultural seasons- during the summer it is possible to harvest grapes here, during Hanukkah to produce oil, and more. The Hasmonean Village offers educational tours, but those who are interested can also tour here independently with the help of a map. Arrival at the Hasmonean Village is through road number 443. There is an entrance fee to the Hasmonean Village and a visit must be arranged in advance.
