Kikar HaMedina (The State Square), Tel Aviv
Kikar HaMedina (The State Square) is not just a square but also a symbol of great meaning. Kikar HaMedina, located in the North of Tel Aviv, spreading over 27 dunams, is one of the largest squares in Israel. It is located in one of the more expensive areas in the city of Tel Aviv and, despite planning, ideas and suggestions, which were raised along the years as to its future, the square itself is not built upon. This is a leveled area which has short foot paths, sitting areas, some of which are shaded, and tall multi-branched Ficus trees. Kikar HaMedina is surrounded by "He BeIyar” Street (named after the Hebrew date on which Israel's declaration of Independence is celebrated), a circular street which has become in recent decades a home to prestigious designers’ stores, where the best of Israeli and International fashion and accessories brand names are being sold. These stores are situated on the ground floors of residential buildings (prestigious in themselves) which look over the square.
