In Kursi, which is to the east of the Sea of Galilee, was found in 1969 a large monastery from the Byzantine period, the largest to have been found in Israel so far. According to the New Testament and Christian Tradition, here in Kursi Jesus performed the miracle of the pigs. It is told that Jesus disembarked from a boat here and met a man plagued by unclean spirits. Jesus then cast out the unclean spirits into a herd of pigs grazing nearby. On the floor of the monastery is a beautiful mosaic floor which features images of animals, such as: roosters, geese and doves, as well as images of plants, such as: citrons, figs, pomegranates and clusters of grapes. At the center of Kursi National Park is the "the magic bench”- a wooden bench which attracts many visitors, some of whom report senses of wonderful energy and special peacefulness. The bench is famous for having unique properties and for making wishes come true.
