In 2010 this monastery, situated in Edomim Plain and named after the Armenian monk, Euthymius- one of the founders of monasticism in the Judean desert of Byzantine time- was opened to the public. During the 5th century CE, Euthymius lived in this monastery of hermits (Laura) with his students and he was also buried on its grounds. In the entrance shade is a map of the grounds and signposts which tell the story of the hermits of the Judean Desert during the Byzantine period. The area of the monastery includes also the remains of an impressive entrance gate, main courtyard, crypt, monks’ cells, church, inn, water channels and underground water cistern- one of the main attractions in a visit here due to its impressive size and depth. One can go down to its bottom, with the help of stairs which were installed here. The site is open to visitors only by prearranging in advance.
