The Mosaic House Jaffa

Chaim Weizmann, Ariel Sharon, Chava Alberstein, Ilan Ramon and hundreds of additional leaders, artists, writers, rabbis and other celebrities crowd together on Yehuda HaYamit Street in the home of Yossi Lugasi, in Jaffa, which looks like a shrine to Israeli heritage. Lugasi, an autodidact artist, created up-to-date more than 600 mosaic portraits that fill the roof of his house which has long ago become an impressive and unofficial mosaic museum, attracting large numbers of visitors. Beyond the portraits, there are also mosaics of animals and other decorative ones here as well. Lugasi says he received his inspiration for these beautiful creations from the wonderful mosaics which were excavated in the archeological site of Beit She’an, where he visited when he was a child. The mosaics were etched in his memory and have later become his life project.
