Mount Sodom (Har Sdom), rising above its surroundings near the southern basin of the Dead Sea, is in effect a huge accumulation of salt which has risen above the ground. Salt or soil, for you it is a high platform from which you will be able to see breathtaking panoramic views. Near sunset (or sunrise) the effect created by the mountain is greatly intensified: the shadows become longer and the area in its entirety is painted in deep orange. From the observation point at the top of the mountain one can see well the vast spaces of the nearby marlstone and the ravines, the Dead Sea itself and the Mountains of Moab which serve as a wonderful setting. For those who like geographic information: the height of this mountain is 200 meters above the Dead Sea, and about 190 meters below sea level. If you are already here, it is recommended to go and visit the nearby Nahal Pratzim (Pratzim Stream), which offers a beautiful, short and easy trail.
