The House of Simon the Tanner in Jaffa is a good example for a structure that is connected with some interesting legends and traditions. The House of Simon the Tanner, situated at the heart of Old Jaffa, is said to have hosted Saint Peter, Jesus’ Apostle. According to one of the traditions, it was on the roof of this structure that Saint Peter brought Saint Tabitha back to life. Many pilgrims from all over the world come to the House of Simon the Tanner, which is considered to be sacred to Catholics. Near the House of Simon the Tanner are found the remains of a lighthouse from the mid 19th century, on top of which the British built a new lighthouse at the time of the British Mandate in this country. Today, the beautiful stone structure of the House of Simon the Tanner, with its beautiful arched entrance, is under the care of an Armenian family.
